Another great episode! I have been preaching to friends and fans alike that you have to go back 20 plus years to find a non-derivative character from the big two that made any impact. Shoot..maybe as far back as DP and Harley. Readers don’t like to give those original characters much of a chance, so publishers keep giving us derivatives. Some great, some not so much. That’s the game.
Maybe more like 30 years. Some of the Image boys, like Liefeld and Lee, pretty much started, IMO, the derivative comic character trend, so it definitely is in line with what you’ve been trying to tell people.

Speaking of derivatives, you forgot to mention the MC2 universe derivatives, which were hit or miss. I’m all in for the current Spider derivatives like Spider-Gwen (Ghost Spider, which sounds dumb), and Miles Morales. Don’t forget one of the older and original derivatives, like Spider-Woman. But being a comic reader since the 1990s, I still read the originals.
